Tried the Chicago dog, chili dog, Seattle dog. The chili dog was probably my favorite, but I honestly wish these dogs are bigger and had punchier flavor. The chili cheese fries were actually my favorite of everything. Lol Nice spot to drop by and get a couple tasty hot dogs though. The dude taking orders was super cool and patient. Offered to get is drink refills if we needed it too.
Overview
If you're craving a satisfying meal in Seattle, Matt's Famous Chili Dogs at 6615 E Marginal Wy S, Seattle, WA 98108, is a spot you don’t want to miss. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, this iconic diner serves up some of the best chili dogs in town, making it a must-visit for anyone with an appetite for bold flavors and a down-to-earth atmosphere.
The first thing you’ll notice when you walk into Matt’s Famous Chili Dogs is the unmistakable aroma of sizzling hot dogs and rich chili. It’s the kind of place where the food speaks for itself. The menu, while focused on chili dogs, offers a variety of options that cater to different tastes, from the classic chili dog to creative twists on this beloved dish. Each chili dog is piled high with Matt’s special chili, which is savory, tangy, and perfectly spiced-never too mild or overwhelmingly hot.
I first tried the chili dog at Matt's on a rainy Seattle afternoon, and it was a game-changer. The hot dog itself was perfectly grilled, with a crisp, slightly smoky exterior and juicy, tender meat inside. But it’s the chili that really stands out. The balance of spices is spot on-neither too greasy nor too bland-and it complements the hot dog in a way that makes each bite an experience. I ordered the “Ultimate Chili Dog,” which comes with extra toppings like cheese and onions, and let me tell you, it didn’t disappoint. The richness of the chili was the perfect contrast to the sharpness of the onions and the creamy melted cheese.
What’s great about Matt’s is that they’ve got something for everyone. Vegetarians can enjoy a chili dog made with plant-based sausages, while meat lovers can indulge in their signature dogs with toppings ranging from jalapeños to crispy bacon. And if you’re in the mood for something more than just a chili dog, they offer sides like fries, onion rings, and even chili cheese fries, which are as comforting as they sound.
Another thing that makes Matt’s Famous Chili Dogs stand out is its reputation among locals. For years, this diner has been a staple in Seattle’s food scene, known for its consistent quality and no-nonsense approach to serving great food. The atmosphere is laid-back, with friendly staff who know their regulars by name, adding to the charm. You won’t find fancy decor here, but the focus on great food makes it all worth it.
Matt’s also offers a drive-thru, which is a huge plus for anyone on the go. You can swing by and grab a chili dog to enjoy on your own time, without the hassle of parking. Plus, if you’re really craving it but don’t have the chance to visit in person, you can find them on various local delivery platforms.
What’s also worth mentioning is the local love and the many positive reviews from satisfied customers. Matt's has a loyal following, and it’s easy to see why. Beyond the food, the diner has become a part of the community. It’s the kind of place where you feel like you’re not just grabbing a quick bite but enjoying a tradition.
If you're visiting Seattle or live in the area, Matt's Famous Chili Dogs is worth the trip. It’s a great spot for casual dining, whether you're here for lunch, dinner, or a late-night snack. The combination of quality food, welcoming vibes, and the signature chili dogs will make you want to return again and again. The diner’s consistency and commitment to serving fresh, flavorful food is why it remains a beloved local gem.

A hidden gem! Matt’s Hot Dogs have been around since 1992. Matt’s is located a converted home, tucked away in the more industrial part of the Georgetown neighborhood. Matt’s serves up hot dogs, hamburgers and fries. They are closed on the weekends, and open 10am - 8pm Monday through Friday. We found the prices to be reasonable and the variety great. I definitely appreciate a place that keeps the menu simple, but does really good food. The hubby has the double cheeseburger and the “Fire Dog” (Spicy Polish). I had the Seattle Dog and the Chicago Dog. We also had an order of the chili cheese fries. I tried the polish - I liked the spice level, but was not a fan of the softer texture. I really loved the snap of the beef hot dogs - which are Matt’s own recipe. The chili cheese fries were amazing! They had a nostalgic flavor that I can’t put my finger on. They have some bench seating under an awning, but no indoor seating. The service was quick and the staff super friendly. We will be back for sure!
This place rocks. Fast and friendly workers. Simple menu, everything except the drinks worth the price. Got the chili and Seattle dogs. Chili was maybe a little too greasy for my liking but it had the flavor, the Seattle had the cream cheese, fries were just like McDonald’s super cheap and tasty. Both dogs had a nice snap and I’m looking forward to trying the burgers
I got the Chicago dog and chili fries. As a Chicago girl, I can say Portillos is leagues better. Random stands in Seattle are better too. The dog was weirdly skinny. Bun left a lot to desire. One huge plus though was that they packed my chili fries perfectly for takeout so the fries didn't get soggy. Super appreciate that level of consideration. Chili was okay and fries weren't my favorite. Price is pretty fair for Seattle.
Matt's is a burger and hot dog place right across from Katsu Burger on Marginal Way S. It's easy to get to and has a good sized parking lot outside. No tables inside as it's more of a counter to order, but they have a closed in area outside to eat which seats over a dozen people. Their menu isn't that big, but prices are great for the portion sizes and the flavors are fantastic. They keep it simple and that's what makes it great. The hot dogs have a snap to them and the burgers are juicy. The staff is awesome, including the owner Matt who is really funny and a blast to talk to. Overall this is a solid lunch spot and can get rushes from all the industrial places around, but food comes out quick to order.
Great hot dogs and fresh fries at good prices. Had the spicy polish dog and it was spot on. Fries were crisp and the dog/ingredients flavorful. Very friendly staff, they have hand sanitizer dispensers annd there is an outdoor sitting area if you prefer to dine in.
This is a slice of America that must be protected at all costs. If you love Seattle, appreciate hard-workin folks, and crave the kind of classic comfort food that feels like home, Matt’s Chili Dogs is where you need to be. The dogs? Perfection. The cheeseburgers? A masterclass in simplicity. But it’s more than the food—it’s the heart of the place. You can feel the soul of a community that still values grit, flavor, and timeless food at a fair price. So come here. Come often. Bring friends. Because places like this don’t just serve food, they serve memories. And if we want to keep a little piece of Americana alive in Seattle, we owe it to ourselves to support Matt’s Chili Dogs!!
